Take Churton Street South out of Hillsborough (It becomes Old NC Hwy 86). After you pass under I-40, look for the large rocking chair ~75 yards past the interstate on the left. Turn left into the gravel drive between the chair and the Cooper-Payne building/group of palm trees and follow it up the hill to the garage. This is exit 261 off of I-40.
The jam will be held from 7:30 until 10:30 as always.
As a reminder, this is a bluegrass jam and as such is acoustic only (no electric guitar, bass, drums, etc).
The calendar at the bottom of this window has entries for the jams and if you click on those entries, it will bring up the location and links to maps, etc.

1st Annual Lil' John's Mountain Music Festival (aka Bass Mtn.)
John Maness took over the reins when the management of Bass Mountain was unable to continue with old festival (for various reasons) and started his own event. Other than being Thursday-Saturday this year, the other notable difference is the lower ticket prices across the board, which IMO is a welcome change. The lineup isn't bad either. There is also a band contest on Saturday, May 16th, which is something new as well. The band contest conflicts to some degree with the HLS Pickin' in the Park Festival, but does start right as the HLS event finishes (6:00 pm), so it may not present a problem for those interested in attending both events. The winners of the band contest get to perform as the starting group each night of the festival, with the 3rd place playing Thursday, 2nd place Friday and 1st place Saturday night. Pretty cool.
The gates open at 8:00 am, Saturday, May 16th if you're planning on camping and wish to take your RV and get a prime camping spot. Primitive camping is free with a paid weekend ticket.
The schedule is as follows:
Thursday May 21, 2009

This is a great chance to see some of the top bands in the business right here in our back yards and participate in some of the best campground jamming anywhere. It's also a great opportunity to attend the very first in what will hopefully be a lone line of successful festivals in the spirit of the former Bass Mountain.

The Denton Farm Park is a wonderful venue, easily one of the best I've been to anywhere. The 100 acre grounds are clean and safe and the stage area is covered with fixed seating in a stadium pattern, so there are no bad seats. There is room on the outside of the covered area for lawn chairs and also for golf carts in the back. The food is also quite good for what it is and there are a number of vendors selling instruments and other items. The camping facilities are excellent, with clearly defined spaces with over 500 camping hookups and 5 bathhouses with 30 showers. Day visitors will find parking plentiful with a little bit of a walk to the stage area, depending on when you arrive in the day.
Denton hasn't quite cultivated the same reputation for jamming that Bass Mtn. had, but last year, there were lots of opportunities to jam and I went from circle to circle and found that folks were very receptive to my joining in without fail. It is my understanding that the jamming improves each year, so if this is your primary reason for going to a festival, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Tickets are also reasonable considering the quality of the park and the lineup. All prices are the "Gate" price, since we are past the deadline (April 24th) for purchasing advanced tickets.
- 3 Day Weekend $85.00
- 2 Day Weekend $65.00
- 1 Day $35
- Children under 15 free with parent
- Childrem 15-17 half price with parent
Please visit the festival web site for more information.
